Linux Hosting : SpamAssassin

SpamAssassin is a mail filter installed on a mail server used to identify spam. It checks for spam using a large number of pre-set rules that check the header, body, and sender of all e-mail messages sent to your domain mailbox. It uses a point system to determine if the message is spam or not. Each element of the message has a specific point associated with it, once the message reaches your determined point (or hit) limit, the message is marked as spam. For example, if the message contains a message a Remove Me link, that may add on 1 hit. If it contains a message using large fonts that may be another point.

To enable SpamAssassin:

1. Click on the SpamAssassin link in the Mail area.

2. Click on the Enable SpamAssassin button.

3. You may also adjust the setting at which SpamAssassin will tag messages as spam. The higher the number, the less spam it will tag - the lower the number, the more spam it will tag. We recommend start somewhere between 5 and 10 and adjusting the settings every few days. If you find out that it is deleting e-mails that you want, you will have to adjust it higher.

4. SpamAssassin by default does not delete messages marked as spam, only marks them. To have messages deleted, go to E-mail Filtering from the E-mail menu, and create a filter to discard any e-mails marked by SpamAssassin. The instructions are on that page as follows: To filter all mail that SpamAssasin has marked as spam, just choose "SpamAssassin Spam Header", "begins with", and then enter "Yes" in the box. .
